INTERNATIONAL SURFING DAY 2009 WAS ANOTHER HUGE SUCCESS! WE HAD OVER 105 EVENTS WORLDWIDE. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT!

 

THE CHALLENGE DEADLIENS ARE COMING UP QUICK, PLEASE SIGN UP AND SUBMIT YOUR PHOTOS AND VIDEOS ASAP. THERE ARE TONS OF GREAT PRIZES THAT YOU DON;T WANT TO MISS OUT ON!

ELECTRIC

CHALLENGE: “Most Unique Piece of Trash”

Find the most unique piece of trash. For grand prize entry, participants must take a photo of the piece of trash on ISD.

To submit photo, you must join the ISD community. Go to www.intlsurfingday.com and click on the community tab. Sign up for a profile, all you need is a valid email address. (Please note, the email address given will be used to contact winners)

 

Once you have joined the community, go to the Electric Community page (http://internationalsurfingday.ning.com/profile/Electric). Click on the “Photos” button on the top and upload your photo. YOU MUST TAG THE PHOTO “ELECTRIC CONTEST.”

ALL PHOTOS MUST BE UPLOADED BY JUNE 29TH

PRIZES:

On-site Prize — Each winner receives a copy of Electric’s “Save the Big Fat Whales” DVD

Grand Prize — 5 grand prize winners will receive sunglasses, umbrella, and towel. (Decided by photo submission — contestants must go to the website and upload photo.)

OCEAN MINDED

CHALLENGE: “Eventually Everything Ends Up In The Ocean” theme
                                   
The participant who conducts a cleanup farthest away from the beach. Participants submit photo(s) of the inland cleanup they did along with the following information: Where the inland cleanup took place; how many people participated; how much trash was collected; and how far away from the beach the cleanup was.

To submit written and photo, you must join the ISD community. Go to www.intlsurfingday.com and click on the community tab. Sign up for a profile, all you need is a valid email address. (Please note, the email address given will be used to contact winners)

 

For Written Submission: Once you have joined the community, click on the Ocean Minded community page (http://internationalsurfingday.ning.com/profile/OceanMinded)

 

At the bottom of the page, click on “Ocean Minded Essay Contest” in the Blog section. Enter your submission in the comment box. Please make sure to reference the picture that this pertains to. YOU MUST TAG THE ESSAY “OCEAN MINDED CONTEST” AND SUBMIT IT.

Grand Prize — A pair of Bede Durbidge’s Signature sandals and a pair of Bethany Hamilton’s signature sandals, signed by Bede and Bethany; a pair of men’s or women’s sandals in the winner’s size, a shirt in the winner’s size, and Ocean Minded backpack, and Ocean Minded hat. MATIX

CHALLENGE: “Matix Branding”
                                   
Send in the best photo of yourself with any sort of Matix branded feature on your body. The brand can be created with sunscreen, tape, stencil, etc. and the winning participant will be the best-branded logo.

DVS

CHALLENGE: “Most Alternative Material Rode on a Wave”
                                   
Participants must send in a video of themselves riding the most unique piece of trash or object on a wave. This could be a door, a piece of wood, anything that can be found....

To submit videos, you must join the ISD community. Go to www.intlsurfingday.com and click on the community tab. Sign up for a profile, all you need is a valid email address. (Please note, the email address given will be used to contact winners)

 

Once you have joined the community, go to the DVS Community Page (http://internationalsurfingday.ning.com/profile/DVS). Click on the “Video” button on the top and select your video to upload. YOU MUST TAG THE VIDEO “DVS CONTEST.”

PRIZES:  

On-site Prize — Each winner will receive a beach ball, fin key, bottle opener, stickers, etc.

O’NEILL

CHALLENGE #1: “Eco-Friendly Video Contest”
                                   
Video submission contest that must contain eco-friendly content (beach clean-up, environmental restoration, etc.) The video can be no more than 3 minutes long.

To submit videos, you must join the ISD community. Go to www.intlsurfingday.com and click on the community tab. Sign up for a profile, all you need is a valid email address. (Please note, the email address give will be used to contact winners)

 

Once you have joined the community, go to the O’Neill Community page (http://internationalsurfingday.ning.com/profile/ONeill). Click on the “Video” button on the top and upload your video. YOU MUST TAG THE VIDEO “ONEILL CONTEST.”

PRIZES:  

On-site Prize — Each winner will receive a T-shirt or tote bag.

Grand Prize — O’Neill surf package: Backpack, tee, boardies and towel. (Decided by video submission — contestants must go to the website and upload video.)

REEF

CHALLENGE: “Seeing is Believing” Challenge

Find a location that you believe is in need of change and snap a “before” picture. Then on ISD, do something to make it better (trash clean-up, restoration, etc.) and get the “after” photo. Participants must submit these photos, plus a couple of sentences about what they did on ISD to help improve the environment.

Once you have joined the community, go to the Reef Community page (http://internationalsurfingday.ning.com/profile/Reef).  Click on the “Photo” button on the top and upload your photo. YOU MUST TAG THE PHOTO “REEF CONTEST.”

PRIZES:  

On-site Prize — Each winner will receive a Reef wax kit

Grand Prize —Reef “head-to-toe” Prize Pack. (Decided by photo submission — contestants must go to the website and upload photo.)

SECTOR 9

CHALLENGE: “Make the Best Trash Skateboard”
                                   
Build the most creative skateboard out of some sort of trash on June 20th — skateboard can be created out of wood, trash or other objects.

VANS

CHALLENGE: “Best Trash Sculpture”
                                   
Submit a photo that contains the best trash sculpture that you have built or collected.

VOLCOM

CHALLENGE: “Biggest Piece of Trash”
                                   
Find the biggest piece of trash onsite at an ISD official location.

PRIZES:  

On-site Prize — Each winner will receive a pair of Volcom socks, a license plate cover and a mouse pad.

 

PATAGONIA

CHALLENGE: “Enviro-board”

Ride the most environmentally sound surfboard on ISD (hand-shaped epoxy, wooden, etc).

PRIZES:  

On-site Prize — Each winner will receive a tee, DVD or sticker.

BILLABONG

CHALLENGE: “Most Plastic Bottles”

Pick up the most plastic bottles and plastic materials on-site at an ISD official location. The bottles can come from the beach, sidewalk or trash, so long as they come from a spot where the would otherwise not be recycled. A photo must be taken of the plastic bottles.

Once you have joined the community, go to the Billabong Community page (http://internationalsurfingday.ning.com/profile/Billabong). Click on the “Photo” button on the top and upload your photo. YOU MUST TAG THE PHOTO “BILLABONG CONTEST.”

PRIZES:

On-site Prize — Each winner will receive a DVD, hat, tee or belt, etc.

Grand Prize — A pair of recycled boardshorts. (Decided by photo submission — contestants must go to the website and upload photo.)

QUIKSILVER

CHALLENGE: “Diamond Dobby Beach Clean-Up Challenge”

Participants must identify 4 pieces of trash that correspond to the 4 elements of Diamond Dobby™ Boardshort technology: Lightweight, No Rash, Quick Dry and Perfect Stretch. The first contestant to find and present 4 pieces of trash on the beach that fit into these 4 categories wins!

Examples of trash in each category are:
· Lightweight: Styrofoam, cork, paper
· No Rash: smooth glass, smooth soda can, smooth glass bottle
· Quick Dry: piece of cloth or fabric, cigarette butts, sponge
· Perfect Stretch: rubber, rubber bands, plastic 6-pack can holders

*Please get parent’s consent to post picture if winner is under 18 years old, and winner’s consent if he/she is over 18 years old.

PRIZES:

On-site: Each winner will receive a “Feel the Future, Diamond Dobby” t-shirt, as well their name and picture posted on Quiksilver’s blog. Ten of the 100 winners will be randomly selected to win 2 pairs of Diamond Dobby boardshorts.

Grand Prize: Winner will receive 2 pairs of Diamond Dobby boardshorts. All on-site winners can check Quiksilver’s blog two weeks after ISD to see if their picture was selected. Quiksilver will contact winners for boardshort sizes and shipping addresses.

RIP CURL

CHALLENGE: “Rip Curl encourages you to Search but don’t destroy”

Rip Curl encourages you to Search but don't destroy. Two years ago, we got creative and paid for team rider Taylor Knox's diesel Ford F-250 truck to be converted to run on vegetable oil, making it the ultimate clean Search vehicle.

On International Surfing Day, we challenge participants to document the most creative, eco-friendly transportation you choose to utilize to Search for waves. The most creative and admirable form of eco-friendly transport and documentation will receive a grand prize.

CHALLENGE: “SOUNDS 2 SAVE”

Whether you’re into Method Man or Metallica, MGMT or Matt Costa, music provides the soundtrack to our lives.
