About Your Organization: SURFING is the great unifier. At a time when there are so many divisions in the lineup, so many categories and cliques and criteria, SURFING Magazine casts aside it all and makes you want to do two things: 1) Become a better surfer in and out of the water and – above all else – 2) Go surfing.
Now in its 45th year, SURFING’s tradition is to keep things simple. To avoid weighty ponderings and 20-page analyses of the first balsa boards. It also doesn’t “talk down” to you, as if we’re assuming our entire audience is under the age of 13. Instead, SURFING is a straight shooter, giving everyone from the beginner to the starry-eyed prospect to the souly wanderer to the seasoned pro to the salty legend something to celebrate. How does it do this? By focusing on the things that matter to all of us: the world’s best surf photography with visionaries like Dustin Humphrey, DJ Struntz, Jeff Flindt, Daniel Russo, Nate Lawrence and Steve Sherman. The world’s best surfing by the present and future icons and the ageless Kelly Slater. Eye-opening travel destinations: places like China, Uruguay, Namibia, Iceland, Vanuatu, Newfoundland and Cape Verde – and these were just in the past few months. Mind-expanding thought pieces like our essay on surfing and religion and the creation of the movement known as Surf First. A clean, forward-thinking design that’s mimicked in surf pubs around the world. And a neverending, unfiltered connection between you, the reader and the surfers who are making history every single month.
It’s that basic. By highlighting the things that unite us instead of divide us, SURFING has become essential to every surfer. Pick up an issue and join the party.

All of the challenges have an environmental theme, and my video is more about the essence of surfing and friendship/family. I made it in response to a post I saw about a month ago about a more open-ended video contest--if you can give me any suggestions on which challenge might work for me, I'd really appreciate it.
